DIY | "Piggy Bank" Favor Boxes

They say you shouldn't play with your food, but gold chocolate coins are far too fun that surely an exception can be made. Here, the candy shop sweet finds a home in tiny piggy banks, which are just plain pink favor boxes dressed up with cardstock cutouts and pipe cleaners. Perfect for parting gifts for a pig-themed party or really any party - everyone will get a kick out of this classic duo.

  • Pink favor box
  • Pink cardstock
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Pink pipe cleaner
  • Craft knife
  • Circle craft punch
  • Sharpie
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick
  • 1/8" hole punch
  • Chocolate gold coins
  • Needle nose pliers

Step 1 - To make the coin slot: first, measure the diameter of the gold coin. Then, draw 2 lines on the inside of the box (as shown), slightly wider than that measurement.

Step 2  - Using the craft knife, cut along the 2 lines.

Step 3  - Using scissors, cut out the paper flap. Test to see if the gold coin will sit snugly in the slot without falling in.

Step 4 -  Cut out ear shapes from the cardstock and use the circle punch to make a nose.

Step 5 - Draw nostrils with the Sharpie.

Step 6 - Glue nose onto one side of the box and the ears on the inside of the box.

Step 7 - Punch a hole on the other side of the box for the tail.

Step 8 - With the needle nose pliers, cut a 3" piece of pipe cleaner and bend both ends inwards so that the ends aren't 'pokey'.

Step 9  - Curl pipe cleaner into a tail and thread through the hole. Bend pipe cleaner on the inside to keep the tail in place.

Step 10  - Fill box with gold coins and place one on top of the box.
